Many visitors install WeChat, enter their number — and hit a screen asking an existing WeChat user to scan a QR code. It's a routine anti-spam step, not a rejection, and it's easy to clear if you know someone on WeChat.
Why WeChat asks for verification
New accounts registered from abroad are sometimes checked to prevent spam. The verifying user only confirms you're a real person; they get no access to your account or messages.
Who can scan for you
- Any existing WeChat user whose account is in good standing — a friend, colleague, your hotel, tour operator or guide.
- Send them a screenshot of the QR code; they scan it from WeChat → Scan.
If you don't know anyone on WeChat
- Set up Alipay first — it doesn't need this step and covers almost all payments.
- Ask your hotel or tour operator to verify you on arrival; set up WeChat Pay then.
